True Fictions: Before Night Falls (15)

  • The Exchange The Old Library, Walnut Tree Road DA8 1RS (map)

Javier Bardem was nominated for an Academy Award for his incredible performance of Reinaldo Arenas, the Cuban poet, novelist and playwright.  Before Night Falls is based on Arenas’ posthumously published memoir, and tells of his life as a writer and as a gay man living in mid-1950s and then Castro’s Cuba.

This film is part of a new film programme exploring cinematic portrayals of a diverse group of writers – including food, comic book, children’s book writers and poets, and exploring themes of loss, sexuality, fulfilment, dependence and star-crossed love.

Cinema snacks will be available from the Bookstore Café.
