True Fictions: The Lost Weekend (PG)

  • The Exchange The Old Library, Walnut Tree Road DA8 1RS (map)

A stunning 1945 American film noir from Director Billy Wilder is based on Charles R. Jackson’s 1944 semi-autobiographical novel about a writer battling with alcoholism. A massive commercial success at the time, but more recently praised for its cultural, historical and aesthetic significance. A must-see on the big the screen.

This film is part of a new film programme exploring cinematic portrayals of a diverse group of writers – including food, comic book, children’s book writers and poets, and exploring themes of loss, sexuality, fulfilment, dependence and star-crossed love.

Cinema snacks will be available from the Bookstore Café.
