True Fictions: Shakespeare in Love (15)

  • The Exchange The Old Library, Walnut Tree Road DA8 1RS (map)

Relatively little is known about William Shakespeare who is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language. This film imagines a love affair involving the playwright and Viola de Lesseps (Gwyneth Paltrow) as he writes his enduring romance Romeo and Juliet. Full of fun, frolicking and full-on costume, the incredible cast, including Judi Dench, Geoffrey Rush and Colin Firth, bring the magic of theatre to the big screen.

This film is part of a new film programme exploring cinematic portrayals of a diverse group of writers – including food, comic book, children’s book writers and poets, and exploring themes of loss, sexuality, fulfilment, dependence and star-crossed love.

Cinema snacks will be available from the Bookstore Café.
