Help us raise money for the restoration of The Book Hoist!

On Sunday 09 June at 3pm, five members of the BBC Symphony Orchestra have kindly offered to perform at The Exchange to raise money for the restoration of The Book Hoist. The quintet will be performing a programme that includes Vaughan Williams, Mozart and Erith composer Percy Hilder Miles.

We are aiming to raise £3,000 which would fund the restoration of the original book hoist, which was installed in the building in 1906 and allowed the librarians to easily move books from the bookstore on the lower ground floor to the public part of the building on the ground floor.

Donation tickets - £10 (£5 for concessions*)- although you are free to give more if you are able to!

*concessions - over 65s, income-support, students, under-16s

The programme:

  • Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958): Phantasy Quintet

  • Percy Hilder Miles (1878-1922, of Erith) String Quintet in A

  • INTERVAL

  • W.A. Mozart (1756-1791) String Quintet in C

The BBC Symphony performers:

  • Violins: Anna Smith & Lucy Curnow

  • Violas: Phil Hall & Peter Mallinson

  • Cello: Michael Atkinson
