VOLUNTEER IN OUR GARDEN

Volunteering at The Exchange is a unique opportunity for those with a keen interest in gardening to come and further their knowledge and learn about experimental horticulture in a tranquil setting. It is gardened by our Head Gardener, Selina, alongside a team of volunteers. Designed by Sarah Price and planted in 2021, public gardens of this calibre are hard to come by within easy reach of London.

We don’t have a lawn, or hedges to maintain. Instead, the garden is packed with unusual shrubs, perennials and ephemerals suited to all kinds of garden situations. If you are interested in getting involved, below is what we offer:

GARDEN VOLUNTEERING | FRIDAY 10AM – 1PM (WEEKLY)

Open to anyone with an interest in horticulture - whether you are local to The Exchange and keen to help a community organisation, or you live further afield but want to get some experience in a Sarah Price garden.

Tasks are seasonal but include things like pruning, deadheading, selective weeding, planting, training climbers, propagation and general tidying.

Some tasks may be on the strenuous side or involve bending down or stretching, e.g. mulching, pruning, weeding.

Experience isn’t required and you will receive training for each task, but you must be comfortable working independently and taking initiative where necessary.

Option to join the Garden WhatsApp group for communication about weekly jobs and to receive updates.

VOLUNTEER PLACEMENTS

We love sharing our knowledge and working processes with people and are keen to take on those that may be in search of a career change or are already studying towards a horticulture related course.

We run weekly volunteer sessions on Friday mornings, but if this isn’t something you can commit to long term, we also offer one-off placements. Weekly placements would run Wednesday - Friday (Selina’s working days).

Please email garden@theexchangeerith.com for more information and we can talk about your specific requirements.
