Explore the shapes, textures and patterns of autumn leaves through the art of relief carving. In this hands-on morning workshop, participants will learn simple carving techniques and use natural forms as inspiration to create a hand-carved wooden panel to take home.
Working with lime wood and exploring the different marks and textures that can be created through carving, you'll develop your own interpretation of autumn leaves and the changing colours of the season.
No previous carving experience is needed, making this a relaxed and accessible workshop for anyone who would like to try something new and get creative with natural materials.
This workshop is designed and delivered by Alice Ridgway. Alice is a woodcarver and gilder, trained in ornamental woodcarving and gilding at City & Guilds Art School. Her practice combines traditional carving techniques with a contemporary approach. Before becoming a carver, Alice studied history and spent five years working with the collections at the V&A. She brings her love of art history into her welcoming, hands-on workshops, making traditional skills accessible and fun.
