Queer Memoir & Non-Fiction Writers Meetup

Calling all queer memoir and nonfiction writers!

Whether you're a published author or a complete beginner, this is a cosy, supportive space to write, receive honest but compassionate feedback, and find a community of fellow writers. Open to all genders and sexualities under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella, no publication history or formal background required, just an interest in memoir, personal essays, journalism, or any form of truth-telling.

What to expect:

  • A warm, inclusive environment with zero tolerance for discrimination of any kind;

  • Quiet, structured writing time;

  • Sharing and discussion (optional).

Who it’s for:

  • Queer-identifying writers of all levels. (18+ only, please.)

What to bring:

  • Your ideas;

  • Something to write with (notebook, laptop, etc);

  • An open mind.

About the facilitator:

Alessandra Fraissinet (they/she) is a relationship and sex educator, independent writer, and event facilitator. Their writing mostly focuses on relationships, gender and sexuality through a transfeminist lens, often drawing from their own lived experiences. Alessandra has led workshops on queer dating at Queen Mary University of London and King’s College London Students’ Union, and previously co-hosted Speed Painting, a social creative event with artist Chiara Formisano.

Waste Not, Create More | Watercolours + Words

A gentle, reflective session in our Waste Not, Create More series with Ruth & Mandy from What If Community Art.

Slow down and soak up a little creative calm. We invite you to pair soft watercolour painting with simple handwritten words — whether it’s a poem, a quote, or a personal reflection.

We’ll use upcycled paper journals and eco-friendly paints, exploring loose, meditative techniques that focus on mood, movement, and colour.

No experience needed, just an open mind and a love for slowing down with art. All materials are provided.

Come for the creativity, stay for the community.

3-Day Hand Building Pottery Class (1/3)

Wednesday 20 August - Friday 22 August | 10:00am - 1:00pm | Suitable for ages 16+

Pottery hand building is a wonderful way to create your own unique clay creations using just your hands and some simple tools. In this course, you will learn how to coil, pinch, and slab clay to make a variety of beautiful pottery items.

One of the first techniques you will learn is pinching - pinching clay involves using your fingers to shape and mould the clay into different forms, such as cups or plates. You will then learn coiling, where you roll out long ropes of clay and stack them on top of each other to create shapes like bowls or vases. Slab building involves rolling out flat pieces of clay and then cutting and piecing them together to make larger objects like boxes or trays.

At the end of the course, all participants will be able to choose two of their own pieces to have glazed and fired to take home and keep.

Designed and led by Merissa Hylton, a multidisciplinary artist and educator based in London.

Waste Not, Create More | Sketchbook Cover Art

Waste Not, Create More – A Creative Workshop Series with Ruth & Mandy from What If Community Art

Join us for the second vibrant session in our Waste Not, Create More Super Saturdays: Sketchbook Cover Art—a joyful, hands-on workshop where watercolour takes centre stage alongside beautiful, sustainable materials.

In this session, you’ll design and decorate your own sketchbook cover using expressive watercolour techniques, combined with collage, layering, and texture. We’ll play with watercolour washes, mark-making, and simple mixed media methods using fabric scraps, recycled paper, old prints, and more—giving new life to materials that might otherwise be discarded.

This workshop is perfect for anyone who loves watercolour and wants to explore it in a fresh, creative way. Whether you’re an experienced artist or just starting out, this is a relaxed, no-pressure space to experiment, express, and enjoy the process.

All materials provided, — but you’re welcome to bring your own favourites or any personal touches you’d like to include.

Let your imagination lead the way.

Come for the creativity, stay for the community.
