Become a TEX Maker
Becoming an Exchange Maker means you can learn craft skills, be part of a making community and help us to produce products that are both useful and beautiful. You will become part of a making team, supported by Exchange staff and other volunteers, and have the opportunity to work collaboratively with professional designers and craftspeople on incredible projects.
Anyone can apply to become a Maker! All you need to do is fill in a form and return it to us so we can understand what you are interested in, and whether what we do works for you. You will be added to a Mailing List so you can hear first about new Workshop projects, and any updates on ongoing activities.
Each workshop operates slightly differently, so if you aren't sure what it is we offer, or whether it is for you, you can attend a free "Become a Maker" session to find out what projects we currently have going on and to talk to a member of the team.

HELP SHAPE ERITH'S FUTURE - ART AND CLIMATE WORKSHOPS
INVITING LOCAL RESIDENTS, SCHOOLS, COMMUNITY GROUPS, YOUTH ORGANISATIONS, AND FAITH COMMUNITIES TO BE PART OF THE CHANGE.
Join us for a series of 4 creative workshops where we will explore local environmental issues together and turn our ideas into a community mural. Working with climate educator, Sammantha Mason, and artist, Danni Miles, participants will learn, share ideas, and help design artwork that reflects what matters to our neighbourhood. The final mural will be displayed locally, celebrating our shared vision for a cleaner, greener future.
These workshops are a chance for communities to reflect on how climate change and environmental degradation impacts their everyday lives and what avenues and tools are available for them to combat that. Through a comprehensive co-creation methodology you will work with experts to understand these concerns at a deeper level, visualise what your collective goals as a community are in the form of a mural design and lay down the foundation for a more comprehensive local climate action campaign.
Come solo or with friends - no experience needed and all materials will be provided. The workshops are open to all and child-friendly, although we do ask that under16s are accompanied by an adult.

Shape, Cast and Create: A Garden Vessel Workshop
Join renowned landscaper Mark Whyman and his team for this hands-on workshop making bespoke garden vessels as seen in Sarah Price’s 2023 Chelsea garden and more recently at Cedric Morris’ Benton End garden.
This is a rare chance to learn the custom recipe originally created by Local Works Studio, who designed and produced the brick paving at The Exchange.
Mark and the team will guide you through how to adapt the colour, shape and texture for your own designs and the finished vessels can be used decoratively or with purpose: as plant pots, shallow bird baths, or small water sources for birds and insects. At The Exchange, we’ll be placing them among the planting to add texture, character and habitat value to the garden.
Mark will be demonstrating two techniques, one using the excavated cast option (digging), and one using the exposed cast option (mounding). Whichever site you are working on, you should be able to make one of these in-situ.
During the workshop, we’ll create several large vessels for The Exchange garden. You’ll also make a smaller vessel of your own design, ready to collect from The Exchange once it has cured two weeks later. If you’d prefer not to keep it, we’d be delighted to use it here in our garden.
Everyone is welcome — gardeners, landscapers, makers and curious beginners alike. No previous experience is needed, just a willingness to get hands-on. Come solo or with friends but places are limited so book soon to secure your spot!
£50 | Book your spot!
Our Garden Room Shop & Coffee Bar will be open from 10am - 4pm on the day, selling drinks, snacks, baked treats and local ice cream, but please bring your own lunch if you don’t have time to eat beforehand.

Shibashi with Kathy
***Weekly Class | Thursday evenings, 7pm - 8pm***
Shibashi means 18 moves in Mandarin. It is a set of 18 gentle flowing exercises derived from Yang style Tai Chi and breathing techniques and movements from Qigong to improve flexibility, mobility, posture and balance as well as to improve mental wellbeing. The focus on breathing and the various chest opening exercises are ideal for improving lung conditions; the rocking, twisting and stretching exercises massage internal organs and aid digestion and circulation.

Sip into Summer: A Medicinal Plant Walk and Herbal Tea Experience
Following a very popular spring event, Sip into Summer returns to The Exchange, this time turning our attention to the plants of the summer season.
Summer brings a different kind of medicine. The long days and warmth concentrate the volatile oils, bitter compounds and resins that give herbs their potency, and many of these plants are growing in our gardens and green spaces right now, waiting to be noticed.
In this hands-on workshop, Medical Herbalist Jola Kaczmarek will guide you through the garden at The Exchange to discover summer herbs in their natural setting, how to identify them, talk you through their medicinal properties and typical indications for your health. We'll then gather together to experience the art of organoleptics, tasting and exploring a freshly prepared herbal infusion through your senses, one of the oldest and most intuitive ways of understanding plant medicine.
You'll leave with a medicinal infusion to take home to share with your friends and family, as well a little more confidence with the plants around you.
All equipment and plant material provided. No experience needed, just curiosity!
