Bexley College Art & Media Exhibition
Art and Design students at Bexley are excited to share their recent work, responding to the themes ‘The Nature of Art’ and ‘Flowers in Art’.
Inspired by a recent trip to the Saatchi gallery ‘Flowers - Flora in Contemporary Art’ and a somewhat natural world inspired year, with a visit to Kew Gardens. We are pleased to see the diverse variety of experimental approaches and mediums, alongside traditional materials, techniques and processes. Our students continue to explore and find imaginative communication of meaning and purpose of work, with some of our learners showcasing their applied skills in the areas they have chosen to study at degree and career level.
Media students at Bexley are excited to share their recent work, created in response to a wide range of creative briefs including Identity, Ident, Short Film, Lose Me in Your Dreams, Music Video, Podcast, Social Media Reviews, and the level 3 year 2’s Major Project: SMILE. Throughout the year, students have explored various storytelling methods and production techniques across different formats, from experimental videos to narrative film and digital content.
We are proud to showcase the diverse approaches taken, spanning documentary, drama, animation, and multimedia experiments, highlighting both technical skill and conceptual depth. With a strong focus on creative expression and purpose, many of our learners have developed distinctive styles that reflect their personal journeys and professional aspirations. Their dedication, innovation, and applied skills mark an exciting step toward future study and careers in the creative industries.

Bundle Dye a Set of Napkins
Explore the simple natural dye technique, bundle dyeing and make a set of bundle dyed napkins with natural dyer Rachael Pilston.
Bundle dyeing uses steam to capture the colours and shapes of plants. Where most natural dye techniques can take days, this is an immediate and satisfying way to play with colour from plants.
After some fun experiments on paper, Rachael will show you how to get the best colours from what nature has to offer at this time of year. From foraged plants to floristry waste all the materials will be provided, it’s a lovely introduction to colour from plants and an intuitive way to play with colour. Rachael will talk you through traditional dye plants and you’ll have the chance to get your hands on some beautiful foraged materials to play with. It’s the only time you’ll feel good about squashing flowers.
You’ll leave with your own little stack of two cotton, bundle dyed napkins and empowered to continue capturing natural colours at home through the seasons. No need to have any background in craft or dyeing, this workshop is suitable for all.
Rachael Pilston is a South London textile artist, educator, and maker who specialises in hand dyeing and hand patchworking techniques. Believing that craft is essential in all our lives, she co-founded Craft Show, a South East London platform dedicated to the stories behind contemporary crafts and textiles.

Watercolour + Sketching Workshop (pm)
Join Ruth for a session (or two!) of watercolour and pastel sketching in the garden.
No experience needed as Ruth will guide and encourage you through the session, whether you’re a beginner or an accomplished artist. This is not necessarily about the finished artwork but more about absorbing the atmosphere and colourfully expressing yourself on paper.
We are hoping to enjoy being out in the open for the session but if the weather is too bad we will adjourn inside and still try to capture the Summer and its sometimes unexpected drama!
Ruth will run a morning session and an afternoon session which can be booked separately or why not stay for the day and take advantage of a 20% discount?
All materials supplied - just bring your enthusiasm!
£10 (or book both sessions for £16)
Pre-booking now closed however drop-in places may be available - please check in with The Garden Room team on the day

1-day Pattern Drafting Workshop
Welcome to the beautiful world of pattern drafting! In this class you will learn how to draft and sew a skirt, not just any skirt - but one that is made to measure for your body and taste. Many people find pattern drafting difficult, however, it’s easier once you know how. In this beginner-friendly workshop, you will learn how to construct a skirt pattern, problem solve fit issues, and the professional sewing techniques for that perfect finish.
Materials needed:
Fabric, cotton, non-stretch*
10-inch invisible zip
Matching thread
Half a meter of lightweight iron on interfacing
*I advise you prewash, dry, and iron your fabric before the workshop to allow for shrinking and prepare your fabric for the project.
Workshop Lead: Tammy Silver
Tammy Silver is a Content Creator and Designer based in London. She began sewing in 2016 and quickly became a lover of the craft. She is a print loving enthusiast who enjoys injecting a dose of quirkiness into her handmade clothes. As a Pattern Designer, she looks to showcase her core style elements of boldness, vibrancy and functionality. Her first sewing pattern, The Petal Top, was featured on series 8 of the Great British Sewing Bee, used by a contestant to reach the semifinals.
