Shibashi with Kathy
***Weekly Class | Thursday evenings, 7pm - 8pm***
Shibashi means 18 moves in Mandarin. It is a set of 18 gentle flowing exercises derived from Yang style Tai Chi and breathing techniques and movements from Qigong to improve flexibility, mobility, posture and balance as well as to improve mental wellbeing. The focus on breathing and the various chest opening exercises are ideal for improving lung conditions; the rocking, twisting and stretching exercises massage internal organs and aid digestion and circulation.
Shibashi can be considered as a moving, mindful meditative practice benefitting mind, body and soul. Each session will include a warm-up, various Qigong exercises and either set 1 or set 2 Shibashi. Come solo or with friends - no experience required.

Become a TEX Volunteer
Join our volunteer team and help us make, welcome, care, connect and create positive change in the local community.
Could you be one of our next volunteers at The Exchange? We are looking for friendly, enthusiastic people to help us care for our building, welcome visitors, support creative activity and keep our free community space open to all.
Volunteering with us is a chance to meet new people, build confidence, learn or share practical skills, support local projects and contribute to a more connected, sustainable and welcoming community. Whether you have specialist experience, a few hours to spare, or simply a willingness to get stuck in, we’d love to hear from you.
There are lots of ways to get involved. You could join our TEX Maker community and work alongside others in ceramics, textiles or timber; help care for, maintain and develop our beautiful community garden - recently featured on BBC Gardeners' World; help in the shop and coffee bar by welcoming visitors and supporting day-to-day activity; lend a hand with practical handyperson tasks; help look after our building and shared spaces through facilities support such as litter picking, tidying and keeping areas safe, clean and welcoming; become an ambassador for The Exchange by sharing what we do with visitors and the wider community; or support the team behind the scenes with administration.
You do not need to be an expert to volunteer with us. We welcome people who are experienced, people who are learning, and people who are curious to try something new. What matters most is that you are open, reliable, friendly and interested in supporting the values and vision of The Exchange.
All you need to do is fill in a form and return it to us so we can understand what you are interested in, and whether what we do might work for you. You will be added to a Mailing List so you can hear first about new projects, and any updates on ongoing activities.
Find out more about The Exchange and our volunteer opportunities, by attending a free "Become a TEX Volunteer" session to find out what projects we currently have going on and to talk to a member of the team.

Sip into Autumn: Herbal Syrup Making Workshop
Following two popular events this year, Sip into Autumn returns to The Exchange, this time turning our attention to the berries, roots and seeds of the season.
Autumn carries a different kind of medicine. Where spring and summer gave us fresh leaves and flowers for light infusions, autumn's medicine sits in denser material: berries, roots, seeds and mushrooms, whose constituents need drawing out more slowly. Many of them are ripening in our gardens and hedgerows right now.
In this hands-on workshop, Medical Herbalist Jola Kaczmarek will guide you through the garden at The Exchange to discover the season's plants in their natural setting, how to identify them according to botanical principles, and what makes each one distinctive.
We'll then gather together to make a syrup for the colder months ahead.
You'll leave with your own bottled syrup to take home and share with your friends and family.
All equipment and plant material provided. No experience needed.

The Mulberry Circle - Root · Flow · Flourish
The Mulberry Circle - Root • Flow • Flourish
Come and join The Mulberry Circle, a welcoming in-person monthly gathering each month designed for women to pause, breathe and reconnect with themselves, one another and nature.
Held in the beautiful Mulberry Room at The Exchange and inspired by the nearby Mulberry Tree and Sarah Price Garden, each gathering offers a gentle space for rest, reflection, guided practices and meaningful conversation.
Wherever you find yourself today, you are warmly welcome. There is nothing to prove here. Together we become a little more rooted, a little more spacious, and a little more connected to ourselves, to one another and to what matters most.
The Mulberry Circle is a monthly gathering hosted by Benaifer Patell, a Daring to Rest Yoga Nidra Facilitator and Coach

Erith Historic Art | Pyrography Demonstration
Michael J. Walker‑Pickett / Pyroline Studio Demonstration
I create high‑detail pyrography — burning images into 6mm beech plywood by hand and with laser — finished with natural shellac and mica to create Living Art: work that shifts, glows and changes with light, and invites close study and touch.
Every piece is rooted in the history of Erith, Bexley and the surrounding area: Lesnes Abbey, St John the Baptist, Crossness Pumping Station, Foots Cray, The White Hart, The Exchange and local murals and gardens.
My passion and focus is historic art — capturing the gifts history left behind, preserving our local heritage, and turning our shared stories into art you can keep.

The Exchange - Open Studios
Have you ever wondered what we get up to at The Exchange? Well, why not pop into our "Open Studios" event, where you can meet the team and hear about some of the incredible things that our Community Makers are making, the traditional craft skills they are learning and the friendships that are blooming. Everything that is made here is in service of the community - we make things that we can use, like our chairs and tables; and we make things that we can sell, like woven plant pots and embroidered napkins.
The Workshops will also be offering little taster sessions so you can get an idea of what's involved and perhaps take the first step in developing a new craft skill.
