ROMANCE OF THE TREES
Our gently sloping Woodland Garden has a mature sycamore at its focal point, providing shade to a romantic mix of perennials, asters, grasses, bulbs and roses which are anchored by the scented silver-leaved Elaeagnus ‘Quicksilver’ and evergreen Osmanthus x burkwoodii.
At the lower sunnier end, by the Greenhouse, there are bolder combinations of the architectural Melianthus major, catmint and colourful seasonal annuals.
The beds are connected by meandering paths, with areas of hard standing. These are laid in herringbone patterns inspired by the interior’s parquet flooring, with handmade bricks developed by Local Works Studio and made by the local community, using reclaimed materials from the building works and locally sourced clay.
The Woodland Garden sponsor would support the maintenance and enhancement of this space, creating better places for people to sit and gather, and new touches to the planting scheme allowing increased seasonal and sensory experiences.
