Voicing Masculinities: Free Theatre Production CPD showcase for Young People, Teachers, Youth workers and Professionals working with young people
Voicing Masculinities explores the pressures facing boys and young men today, including mental health, masculinity, peer pressure, racism, misogyny and the influence of online culture.
The project has been developed through research and dialogue with young people and professionals working with them, and responds to growing concern about boys’ mental health, emotional wellbeing and the often contradictory messages young men encounter about what it means to “be a man”.
Join this free CPD event to see the new production and explore how creative approaches can help open up conversations with young people about masculinity, mental health, relationships and the pressures they experience in their everyday lives.
The event will include a performance of Voicing Masculinities, written by Frances Stone, Stuart Morris and Leon Wander, followed by an opportunity to explore some of the ideas and approaches that underpin the accompanying schools programme.
We’ll consider topics including:
The pressures and expectations around masculinity experienced by boys and young men
The relationship between masculinity, mental health and emotional literacy
The influence of peers, social media and online culture
How young people can be supported to recognise and challenge harmful attitudes and behaviours
How drama and participatory approaches can create safe spaces for difficult conversations
The production and accompanying workshop programme are designed for 13-16 year-old students and aims to encourage young people to think critically about the expectations placed on them, develop greater emotional literacy and feel more confident about seeking and offering support.
We particularly welcome young people, teachers, pastoral and safeguarding staff, youth workers, social workers, counsellors and other professionals working with young people.
Voicing Masculinities has been developed by Little Fish Theatre in partnership with Bexley schools, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and The National Lottery Reaching Communities Fund.
