A GARDEN APPEAL
September next year will mark the fifth anniversary of when we planted our garden. Designed by award-winning garden designer Sarah Price, this garden has become a ‘common paradise’, free to access and open to all.
We are now looking forward to the next five years, and we ask for your support towards “Digging Deep” - a garden appeal that will raise the profile of our garden, and raise money to support its development, so that we can continue to grow the garden’s impact and its place within our community and the garden world.

THE GARDEN STORY
Plans for a garden around Erith’s Old Library started early in The Exchange’s history, but it wasn’t until 2021 when ground was broken and the entire area around the building was landscaped to create access, and planted to create beauty.
Under the guidance of Sarah Price, members of our local community - of all ages - were joined by students from Capel Manor College to plant a garden that responded to its social and climatic environment. This includes Mediterranean planting at the sun-drenched front, woodland planting under the old Mulberry Trees along the South Terrace, and features like the hand-made brick standing areas and corrugated iron fencing, recalling the industrial heritages of Erith’s yesterday.

UNLOCK THE FUTURE
Collectively, we have created an oasis in Erith, a green space that inspires and provides tranquillity in a chaotic and noisy world.
Our Head Gardener, Selina Ozanne, continues to work with Sarah Price and an incredible group of local volunteers to keep the garden looking its best, nurturing it through time and space. But, it has been five years and plants need replacing and there are things that we have never been able to complete, and ambitions we are now able to imagine.
